The Advancing Disability Equality Project (ADEPt) seeks to directly deal with cases of discrimination and human rights violations against persons with disabilities throughout the country.
To establish principles and precedents which help to achieve the attainment of improved rights of persons with disabilities.
The Advancing Disability Equality Project (ADEPt) came out of the realization to set up a project that would directly deal with cases of discrimination and human rights violations against persons with disabilities.
ADEPt started operations in 2008 in Lusaka and expanded to three other provinces over the years to include Western, North-western and Northern provinces.
The purpose of the project was to establish principles and precedents which achieve improved rights of persons with disabilities through capacity building and publicity. The precedents are notably around key issues/themes of
- Women and children with disabilities
- Electoral process
- HIV /Aids.
The Objective of the project was to ensure sustained protection, defence and advancement of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of persons with disabilities in Zambia.
The Key activities involved in the project were;
- Accessibility audits
- Social and legal casework
- Advocacy and promotion
