ZAFOD is implementing a project known as “building DPOs’ capacity in promoting inclusion in ECDE within CBR programs in Zambia” in Kazungula district, Southern province.

The project is being undertaken with technical and financial support from Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA through SAFOD.

ZAFOD is implementing a project “building DPOs’ capacity in promoting inclusion in ECDE within CBR programs in Zambia” in Kazungula district, Southern province. The project is being undertaken with technical and financial support from Open Society Initiative for Southern Africa (OSISA) through the Southern Africa Federation of the Disabled (SAFOD).

The project is being implemented in three (3) other countries i.e. Angola, Lesotho and Mozambique.

The project has a specific focus on building the capacity of DPOs in promoting inclusion in ECDE within the CBR programs in Kazungula district. It aims at strengthening DPOs and already existing structures in Kazungula district to increase access to quality ECDE services for children with special needs.

The project is working within the already existing CBR structures in close collaboration with key stakeholders like the government and other organization involved in CBR programmes.

The project seeks to achieve three (3) main objectives:

  1. To enhance early identification at community level for children with special needs through inclusive CBR interventions.
  2. To build the capacity of DPOs already working in CBR programs to strategically link CBR and ECDE interventions in target communities.
  3. To strengthen community support services for ECDE programs through CBR interventions that is inclusive of children with disabilities.
