ZAFOD participated in the 2017 celebrations to mark the commemoration of International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) that took place on 3rd December, 2017 in Lusaka.

ZAFOD participated in the 2017 celebrations to mark the commemoration of International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD) that took place on Sunday 3rd December, 2017 at the Olympic Youth Development Center (OYDC) in Lusaka.
The IDPD is commemorated globally every year following the proclamation by the United Nations General Assembly resolution 47/3 in 1992. This annual observance aims to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of on the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
In Zambia, the event brought together various stakeholders from the government ministries, quasi-government institutions, civil society organizations, Disabled People’s Organizations, Persons with Disabilities, the press, members of the community, etc.
The event was graced by The Honorable Minister of Community Development and Social Services, represented by The Permanent Secretary in the ministry Rev. Howard Sikwela.
Also in attendance were heads of various institutions, among them The United Nations Resident Coordinator, Sightsavers, World Vision, ZAFOD and ZAPD Board Chairpersons.
ZAFOD exhibited at this year’s commemoration with the Mental Health Users Network of Zambia (MHUNZA)- an affiliate member and Zambia Social Forum (ZAMSOF)- a partner on the SEEING IS BELIEVING project.
